Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen, liebe Studierende, liebe interessierte Öffentlichkeit,

als Teil unserer Veranstaltungsreihe zum Global Middle East möchten wir, die Abteilung für Integrationsforschung und Gesellschaftspolitik des BIM, Sie herzlich zur Veranstaltung Of Divides and Solidarities: im/possible Alliances in the Global Middle East einladen. 

Der Abend wird mit einer Lesung aus Out of Gaza: A Tale of Love, Exile, and Friendship der Jüdisch-Israelischen Wissenschaftlerin Prof. Dr. Katharina Galor (Brown University) eröffnet. Anschließend folgt eine Diskussion mit Expert*innen zu den Themen Sudan (Ahmed Isamaldin, Aktivist und Wissenschaftler, Universität Khartum), Syrien (Yassin Swehat, Journalist, Executive Editor, aljumhuriya.net) und Palästina (Yasmeen Daher, International Research Group on Authoritarianism & Counter-Strategies, Universität Potsdam) unter der Moderation von Prof. Dr. Naika Foroutan (Berliner Institut für empirische Integrations- und Migrationsforschung, HU Berlin). 

Die Diskussion befasst sich mit den (Un-)Möglichkeiten von Allianzen unter den derzeitigen Bedingungen von Gewalt und Unterdrückung. Wir wollen untersuchen, wie neue Formen der Verbundenheit die Logik der Trennung durchbrechen und die politische Vorstellung von Koexistenz und Allianzen im Global Middle East wiederbeleben können. Dabei hoffen wir, die Gegenwart und Zukunft als Bruch mit der Vergangenheit und nicht als Neukonfiguration der aktuellen historischen Ungerechtigkeiten zu erforschen und neu zu denken.

Die Veranstaltung wird am 25 November 2025 von 16:00–18:00 im Lichthof HU und auf Englisch stattfinden.

As part of our series of events on the Global Middle East, we, the Department of Integration Research and Social Policy at BIM, would like to cordially invite you to the event Of Divides and Solidarities: im/possible Alliances in the Global Middle East.

The evening will open with a reading of Out of Gaza: A Tale of Love, Exile, and Friendship by Jewish-Israeli scholar Prof. Dr. Katharina Galor (Brown University). The discussion revisits the im/possibilities of alliances under ongoing conditions of violence and oppression. We want to explore how new forms of relationality can rupture the logic of separation and reclaim the political imagination of coexistence and alliances in a Global Middle East. In doing so, we hope to explore and reimagine the present and future as a rupture with the past and not a reconfiguration of the current historical injustices.

The event will take place on November 25th 2025, 4:00–6:00 p.m. in the HU Lichthof and will be held in English.
